For nearly 50 years, the Bitter End Yacht Club was a famously popular sailing centre in the British Virgin Islands. Four years after Hurricane Irma, the BEYC invites sailors to Virgin Gorda’s North Sound.
Lauren Hokin, BEYC’s owner describes the renovations as “the Bitter End 2.0” with the same vibe, and there’s a good reason. Not only do you have all the marina facilities you need to fill up, the resort is now packed with bars, restaurants and a watercraft rental center. “Welcoming the first wave of visitors, guests, family and friends ashore was exciting beyond compare,” said Lauren Hokin. “Seeing the North Sound filled with boats from all over the world made every step of this journey worthwhile. And so much more is still to come.”
In front of the resort, you’ll find 70 mooring balls. Up to 15 can be reserved if you contact the resort and the rest are first come, first served. Sailing down North Sound, you won’t miss the steep hillside and masts towering from the marina.
The Quarter Deck
Head inside this new building for a Painkiller before making your way to the Village Plaza for shopping at the Reeftique Boutique and Winston’s Bakery. In the plaza, you’ll find the Clubhouse restaurant and the new watersports center. You can rent kayaks, paddleboards, kiteboards and dinghies here. The Market is a convenient stop for provisions and where you can find fresh produce grown locally at the resort. The Quarter Deck has everything you need from catering to casual snacks to fine dining.
Beachfront Accommodations
Step right up to your floating villa at the new Marina Loft apartments – a first in the BVI. On the way are larger bungalows that are still under construction.
Quick hop to Anegada
The Bitter End once again returns as the perfect place to stop before heading off to Anegada, as the North Sound offers a good angle for sailing in the Northeast trade wind.
Are you excited to see the new resort for yourself? There’s no better way to get to the Bitter End then by yacht.
