Sailing Lefkas: Explore Greece On and Off the Water

Sailing Lefkas: Explore Greece On and Off the Water

Setting sail from Lefkas isn’t just about the open water—it’s about everything along the way. From quiet island villages and fresh seafood spots to peaceful anchorages and lively festivals, every stop has something different to offer.

If you’re looking for a sailing trip where each day brings a new discovery, here’s everything you need to know before you set off.

On the Water: Where to Drop Anchor

Sailing Lefkas: Explore Greece On and Off the Water

Fiscardo, Kefalonia – A Seaside Village with Character

One of the most charming spots you’ll find in the Ionian. Walk past old Venetian buildings, explore the tavernas, and sample different olive oils made right on the island. If you want a quiet afternoon, Foki Beach is just a short stroll away—crystal-clear water, an olive grove by the shore, and a beachside restaurant waiting for you after a swim.

Cliff Bay, Atokos Island – A Quick Escape into Nature

An uninhabited island only reachable by yacht, Atokos offers a quiet break from the world. Cliff Bay is the perfect stop for a swim or a slow lunch on board, with white cliffs rising up from the brightest turquoise water you’ve ever seen.

Port Leone, Kalamos – A Bay with a Story to Tell

Anchoring here feels like stepping back in time. This quiet bay is home to an abandoned village, left untouched since an earthquake in 1953. During the day, you can dinghy ashore to explore the ruins. At night, with no city lights around, the sky is filled with stars—an incredible spot for stargazing.

Foki Caves, Kefalonia – A Stop for the Adventurous

Just north of Fiscardo, Foki Caves is a small but stunning bay where you can anchor early for a peaceful swim. If you’re up for it, climb up to the top of the caves for a 30-foot rock jump into the sea below. Inside, the caves stretch for about 100 meters!

Spartochori Bay, Meganisi – A Relaxed Island Hideaway

A great mix of calm waters and good food. The deep blue cove is well-protected from the wind, making it perfect for a swim. Hike up to the village for incredible views, or stay by the shore and enjoy fresh squid and seafood at a cozy waterfront taverna.

On Land: Festivals, Culture & Local Life

International Folklore Festival, Lefkada Town (August)

A full week of music, dance, and cultural performances from all over the world. If you’re sailing in late summer, this is one of the best ways to experience the local energy.

Lentil Festival, Egklouvi (August)

A celebration of one of Lefkada’s simplest and most famous dishes. If you’re in the area, stop by the village of Egklouvi to join in on the food, music, and local hospitality.

Provincial Marriage Feast, Karya (Summer)

A festival that recreates a traditional Lefkadian wedding, from the dowry arrangements to the big celebration. If you want to experience a bit of Greek culture, this is a fun way to do it.

What Our Sailors Say

“Sailing from Lefkas, we stopped at Fiscardo, a village on the northern side of Kefalonia with beautiful old Venetian buildings still in use. Walking distance from the village, there are four amazing beaches, one of which has an olive grove right on the beach! It’s called Foki Beach and is well worth a visit.”
– Dalene, UK Holiday Planner

“Great experience for the whole family. No two days are the same, and there was so much support from the Sunsail team, both at the marina and while out sailing. Really exceptional team.”
– Philip, Bareboat Charter Guest

“Our lead crew were fantastic. Irwin, Meabh and Yiannis made this the best flotilla we had ever done. They went over and above all expectations, knowledgeable, kind, friendly, great fun and brilliant with the children. Please pass our thanks to them all.” –  Brian, Flotilla Customer
